About the Project:
“Synthetic computer-generated imagery is not an inferior representation of our reality, but a realistic representation of a different reality” – Lev Manovich, 2001.
15 Minutes of Mars is an experimental commentary exploring mass media, technology, and a society surrounded by digital space, which I completed in 2019 as a part of my degree.
The film takes place in a mock-up TV show set in a futuristic world, where technology is more dominant than ever. One of the participants in the show, Tana, is sent to experience Earth and its natural environment – her journey is presented in this film.
15 Minutes of Mars was my final project at the university, which I directed and edited (using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects). I have collaborated with people from various departments: a producer, writer, cinematographer, sound editor, composer and set designer. With the team's help, we built two sets entirely from scratch - a TV studio and a spaceship and shot most of the film in a studio.
I used this project as a tool of complete freedom of creativity and expression. Quirky acting, colourful lighting, and eccentric style of editing and sound design - my team and I were experimenting and playing with the tools and equipment we were provided in order to learn as much as possible while still having fun and trying out the techniques that interest us the most.
